The Taylor Calhoun Memorial Awards are given in honor and memory of Taylor Elizabeth-Blair Calhoun. Taylor was sixteen years old and President of the Junior Class at Huron when she was killed in a car accident in September of 1995. Taylor was a scholar-athlete and an extremely positive force on the field, on the sidelines, at school, at home, at church and at play. She lettered in tennis as a freeman and soccer and cheerleading as a sophomore.
The Taylor Calhoun Social Inclusion Fund provides financial support to students with challenging circumstances to help improve the quality of the high school student experience. Support is given based on teacher and coach referrals to student counselors at Huron for social inclusion needs.
Taylor Calhoun Social Inclusion Fund Award Criteria
This fund is available to improve the quality of the high school experience by providing financial support to students in need for items that include, but are not limited to: dental/health care exams, additional talent/skill/leadership development assistance, senior photo, cap & gown, Senior All Night Party, prom dress/tux. athletic pass, letter jacket, National/Institutional Audition assistance.
- Any Huron High School student exhibiting need and referred to the Fund by a teacher or coach

No student application
Referrals come from teachers and coaches and are made to the student’s Counselor
The Counselor then advises the AAPSEF and the Calhoun family of the need
Awards are confidential and communicated to the student via their Counselor
- Check will be issued in the student’s name, to the vendor, or to Huron High School as appropriate
- The check is returned to the students’ Counselor for delivery by them

Taylor Calhoun Sunshine Award for Tennis and Soccer
The Taylor Calhoun Sunshine Awards are given annually to recognize special members of the women’s varsity tennis and soccer teams.
Must have been a Huron High School varsity tennis or soccer player
Must be an enthusiastic and committed leader with a positive attitude
Must have a connection to the squad on and off the field
Must have a distinguished academic career with a GPA of 2.5 or above
- No student application
- Team coaches and varsity players are asked to select a worthy candidates (1 tennis, 1 soccer) by the deadline
- The Huron High Athletic Department coordinates the voting process and informs Educational Foundation of the selection
Two scholarships of $300 each to a Women’s Varsity Tennis player and a Women’s Varsity Soccer player.
A check will be cut in the recipient’s name and sent to the Huron High Athletic Department who will present the award. The award announcement will be made at graduation or an end of year awards ceremony..
Huron High Athletic Department will notify the Foundation no later than April 15 no later than 5pm.
