The Jill Award

Jill Award

This award is given annually to one or two graduating Community High School students who have contributed to making Community a happier place. This award is named for Jill Donnellan, a Community High teacher who brought a happy and generous spirit to students and staff for many years in the Individualized Leaning Center. Jill Donnellan lost her life in the spring of 1997. Many students have been honored with The Jill Award since.

Award Criteria


      • Any graduating Community High School student.
      • Must be positive and enthusiastic.
      • Preference that two awards are given annually; a Special Ed student and a General Ed student.
      • Preference is that the award should go to students who “would not normally receive an award”.

Application Process:

      • There is no application for this award.
      • Recipient(s) shall be chosen by a committee that may consist of the Principal, one general ed staff member, one special ed staff member and the CHS Counselors.
      • The CHS counselor serves as facilitator who will notify the Ann Arbor Educational Foundation when the recipient(s) is/are chosen, and provide necessary information for the Educational Foundation to submit the award check prior to the CHS graduation or spring awards ceremony.
      • AAEF requires a minimum of two weeks advance notice.

Award Amount: 

$250 for each recipient.


CHS shall notify the Educational Foundation the selected applicants by April 15, no later than 5pm.
