What is a StoryStarter?

We all have a story to tell, but sometimes it’s difficult for pupils to get started, or to find words that match their imagination. It all begins with a spinner. Students get inspiration and direction by using the spinner to direct the story’s mood, theme, time or category. Working together, students then create and build stories with LEGO bricks. Once completed, they then use the Story Visualizer Software to write their story in a variety of visual styles and import the images of the scenes they have made. LEGO StoryStarter is the 2014 Educational Resource Award winner for Best Primary Resource including ICT.

Taking Ownership of Learning

“Our goals as educators are to get students to take ownership of their learning. Instead of suggesting projects and topics for students to write about, our students were the owners.”

Excited About Writing

“Students were extremely excited to go through the entire writing process and use the legos as both idea builders and tools for illustrations. Once we started using the kits, students were begging us to do more writing just so they could use the legos.”
