Back to School Efforts

It’s back to school time, and Ann Arborites are preparing! The Ann Arbor Public Schools Educational Foundation has exciting plans for kicking off the school year. That means it is Teacher Grant time. This year we look forward to supporting projects, ideas, and classroom enhancements. Teacher Grant Applications are now being accepted thorough the Foundation’s website. However, that is not the only plans for kicking off the school year. The Foundation will also be supplying kindergarten T-shirts and giving teachers a little welcome back treat.

Every year kindergartners all over Ann Arbor receive bright “safety green” T-shirts as keepsake. These shirts also serve as an easy way to spot kids on field trips or while they are out and about. This usually means that PTOs are working hard to fund this purchase. However, this year the Foundation will be purchasing T-shirts for the over 1,400 incoming kindergartners. As a special welcome to the bright young minds of tomorrow. The Foundation is celebrating the class of 2028!

Kids are not the only ones who deserve recognition. Teachers have a demanding job, and they deserve a positive start to the school year. The Foundation will be welcoming teachers back to school with snack boxes.  Foundation Board Members will be stopping in at all 20 Ann Arbor Public Schools elementary schools during the first week of school to say welcome back and deliver the snacks.  Each snack box will be filled with delicious, healthy snacks that busy teachers can enjoy on the go. It is a small token of appreciation from the Foundation.

Donations toward our Annual Fund and Donor-Established Funds allow the Foundation to give thousands in teacher grants each year. These grants support teacher initiatives, promote innovation, and enhance classroom experiences. Last year the Foundation awarded almost $80,000 in Teacher Grants. Instruments were purchased, field trips were enjoyed, and technology was enhanced.  Learn about the grants awarded last year.  Applications for this year are being accepted now through our website. The 2015 application deadline is October 12 at 5pm.  Encourage teachers to send in their applications today.
